A simple, friendly email inspired my wildlife adventure to Africa – to Maun, Botswana in the Okavango Delta.
My Uncle knows that I love animals. He emails me adorable and funny pictures of dogs, cats, bears, tigers. One day he emailed me this video on elephants from Zambia. And this started it all!
I researched more about Mfuwe Lodge, Zambia and elephants. While we chose not to visit this exact location, instead we made plans to go to Botswana’s Okavango Delta – an extraordinary wildlife adventure!
Maybe you have not heard about the Okavango Delta or are inspired to know more, check out Wikipedia.
Most noteworthy, when you visit the Okavango Delta, plan to spend three days exploring the amazing natural safari park of over 220,000 acres. Most of all, you must explore by Land, by Water and by Air.
Let’s begin with the 12 hour Safari drive, where you will see animals up close in their natural habitat, eating, running, snorting and sleeping. You will see all varieties of animals and birds, more than you can expect.
We took the Full Day Moremi Safari Tour hosted by Thamalakane Lodge. Their hospitality and kindness was a real treat! Highly recommended!
On your second day, take a private helicopter trip to see the Okavango from a birds eye view. You will see the migration paths of the elephants as they travel through the Delta. You will see the hippos swimming and the crocs sun-bathing. But more importantly, you will see the natural beauty of the Delta in contrast to the desolate desert that surrounds.
We had a fabulous experience with Helicopter Horizons in their open-air helicopter. Bring your camera!
On your third day, relax and meander your way by boat through the water channels of the Okavango to see the animals in the lush desert! We took a Full Day Boat Cruise from Thamalakane Lodge. It was spectacular!
In conclusion, if you are looking for a natural safari, wildlife adventure, then be inspired by Botswana’s amazing Okavango Delta!
